Great Expectations - 5 Tenets (cont'd)
“Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power of his work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” – Ephesians 3:20
One of CCO’s founding tenets is that of having a heart of great expectation, a heart that knows that God is capable of doing far more then we can ask or imagine! And not only is our God capable of this, it’s what He wants to do, for us and through us! Living out of this disposition is key for our CCO missionaries to follow the specific call to evangelization that God has placed on our hearts.
CCO’s co-founder Andre Regnier once explained what this heart of great expectation looks like:
“Whatever we do, however small or large, we should always have an attitude of great expectation. We expect that God is going to use events and initiatives for His glory. God never fails to answer our prayers. He has taken CCO from a small group of enthusiastic young people to a national movement having international influence. Is there a more wonderful or more hopeful place to be than in the midst of young people who are working for the kingdom, expecting God to work powerfully through them?”
When we expect God to work through us and follow His call with confidence great things happen! People experience conversion and choose to be in relationship with Jesus. People recognize their missionary identity and seize it with joy and enthusiasm. People are formed to be leaders who will renew the world. It is glorious to see such things and even more amazing to play a role in their fruition. Such things will only come when we have the confidence to cry out to God and then to act upon His call with hope that He will make all things work together for good, “more than all we ask or imagine”.
We can imagine a lot! We can imagine CCO being on every campus in Canada. We can imagine the Gospel being shared on every campus and university students entering into relationship with God. We can imagine student leaders seizing their missionary identity and becoming leaders for the renewal of the world. We can imagine the world reached for Christ!
And God wants to do even more! So have confidence in what God can do in and through you. Respond with confidence and courage to His voice. Ask that He grow in you a heart of great expectations. And then be prepared to marvel at the great things that He will accomplish through His power!
